A spiral point tap has a chiselled point that pushes the metal chips ahead of the forming threads. This is useful when tapping through-holes (holes that extend through the work piece). 

Spiral Point taps are not recommended for use in blind holes: the accumulation of chips can bind and break the tap.

Sherwood HSS Taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials such as Aluminium, Brass and many others. Manufactured with a black oxide finish to resist heat, the spiral point for excellent sheering action.

Straight Flute and Fluteless Taps are manufactured with a standard Bright Finish whereas the Machine Taps have an Oxidised Finish for best results, dissipating the heat build-up associated with these applications.
